I had a blood test/screening and the down sydrome section I need to have retested. I am going in for a level 2 ultrasound tommorow I am very nervous. I have heard that a lot of women get false positives and my chances were 1/200 does anyone know anything or have any experience???

get an amnio done. It's a pain but really the only way to know. Unless... I don't even want to go there.

I think the test results have to do with age too. I was advised against having the test (I was old and refusing amnio so had genetic counseling and a level 2 ultrasound instead) because I had a 47% chance of having a positive for Down syndrome result. I'm sorry this is causing you anxiety. I had a beautiful baby girl -- she was early but no Down's.

I didn't find the level 2 ultrasound too traumatic. I had to go to the big city 90 miles down the freeway and had a technician who was somewhat impersonal (and male). They can't tell you for sure that your child does or doesn't have DS from this procedure is my understanding.

Are they offering you amnio? It's more definitive, but there is a risk to the pregnancy. I didn't want to risk losing my baby and I knew I wouldn't abort for Down Syndrome anyway.

In any case, I think it's very likely that your baby will be healthy. In the unlikely event that you did happen to be pregnant with a child with Downs Syndrome I suggest you read Expecting Adam by Martha Beck. (Eek! Not currently available through Amazon. Try your library).

I am 23 weeks pregnant and at my 20 week detailed ultrasound the doctor found a calcium spot in my baby's heart. This is considered a soft marker for down syndrome. My husband and I have chosen to not get the amnio and my doctor is not concerned with it. All my blood work came back fine but ofcourse I'm still worried/concerned/scared. Whatever you choose to do just remember... God only gives you what you can handle, and he has a master plan for you. Good Luck!

Alot of false positives come with that. Even the U/S is not a guarantee just pray about it and trust all things will be ok. Your baby is a blessing no matter what.
my friend had the same thing and her baby was totally fine and healthy. don't let it stress you out. 1 in 800 is normal for all women so thats not really a bad marker.

Yes, I do. I had the same thing happen with my second son and all was fine. I worried to death for nothing. I had to be retested and went for the high level ultrasound and all was good.

The chances of having a Down's baby increases with the mother's age. Depending on your age, they could be factoring that in to do another test. Just relax, stressing about it won't help you or the baby.

The same thing happened to me, but my doctor just ordered a more detailed ultrasound. Everything was fine, as it is with most pregnancies.
