Well, I know that Iran used to be known as Persia, and that's about the only thing I can say with any certainty. Most of the rest I get contradicting reports from different sources. For example, I've read it used to be a much more pleasant place before the religious hard-liners took over in the late '70s--though I gather from other sources that that might not have happened were it not for some Western countries propping up the Shah in order to have better access to Iranian oil. I've also read that the takeover in the late '70s ushered in the most democratic government in the Middle East at the time, but the taking of hostages made an enemy of the U.S., which led to trade embargoes and constant war with Iraq, which whittled away at democratic ideals.
All things told, I'm not sure which of this to believe. I've also heard that it's nearly impossible for an Iranian to get a green card in America.

Nothing! the same as most Americans. We are told they want weapons and seeing what has happened in Iraq I can understand that. Most iranian's I have met in the USA I like.
They are really nice people. In fact my doctor is from that area.
He has been very concerned about my health and has really helped me more than the white doctor I had before.
The only thing I don't like is the muslim belief's they scare me.
They are to radical. But the ones in the USA are not like that.
They are totally different people. I live and work with a lot of people that has family from that area.
Even American muslims don't scare me, it is the radical ones from the gulf. Been there done that they are different.

i know that Iran was the home of ancient Persian culture and of the Zoroastrian religion. It was a shining beacon of the ancient world and it was the Persian king that freed the Jews from the Babylonian captivity. Islamic architecture and culture are greatly infleunced by ancient Perisia. No offense, but its a shame what radicalized shia islam and sucessive invasions by arabs, mongols and tartars has done to dilute the Persian culture
