Is it possible to take the 56k modem out of my old windows 98 gateway and install it in my etower computer running windows me that has been upgraded to xp sp2?

you should be able to as long as you can find the driver to support it

yes there wouldnt be any problem as long as u have the drivers for the modem, and the connection details, since as telephone number username and password.
