Why not try to meet some people who already work in the fashion industry? Figure out what you say before you call, then get some names and a little info before you do. Call and tell them who you are, and that you are researching careers in the clothing (not "fashion") industry, ask for 30 minutes at their convenience to find out about them and their company. Ask them about their day-to-day routine and what education and work experience it takes. How they like the work, what they plan for advancement (be discreet on that), and what their company looks for.

Schools, teachers and local businesses are all good resources. And be sure to ask each person if they recomment you speak to anyone else, and can you use their name when you call and ask for a few minutes of their time. Even someone who can't take time to talk with you may recommend someone else more helpful.

Online research is good too. Just be sure to look at the day-to-day work involved and the education level required.

Oh, and the pay! But don't ask anybody personally about that! LOL
