i lost my mucus plug at 37 weeks and dilated 2-3 centimeters and nothing is happening. I have heard a lot about stripping your membranes. Has anyone had this done? Why did the doctor choose to do this? And did you ask for it or the doctor decided for you?

I'm sure you've heard that losing your mucus plug is never a definite sign of oncoming labor....however, if you keep noticing the mucus coming out each time you use the bathroom for days...labor could be iminent. I walked around for 3 cm for a week. The doctor would only strip the membranes if you are full term (which you are) and he feels the baby may be getting too large and that it is time to get things going. While you can stay 3cm for weeks, I would suggest long and I mean LONG brisk walks, this helps the baby to put pressure on the cervix and cause it to dilate more. Also sex, semen softens the cervix causing it to open, and a good orgasm contracts the uterus. With both my pregnancies sex definetly induced my labor.

With my first pregnancy I got to the 40 weeks mark and my doctor stripped my membranes. I went into labor 3 hours later. Now with my second pregnancy my doctor stripped my membranes at 40 weeks scheduled me for an induction at 41 weeks and the same day I was scheduled I went into labor. I think my son over heard him. lol

I asked my doc to strip my membranes and he said he could but it would hurt and it only made a difference about half the time. So, I didn't do it and went into labor on my own 2 days later. My friend had hers stripped and she didn't go into labor for another 10 days.

Since you are already in early labor why dont you just try natural ways of speeding up the labor like lots of sex or go to the park and walk and walk until you start having contractions. Take a hot bath or shower maybe it will work for you.

i'm 40 weeks (virtually) 5 days pregnant and experience a similar. i look at it like i have were given no better than 10 days previously this infant will be right here and if i visit take months of this soreness, i visit take some extra days. yet at the same time, it truly is continually exciting once you're literally not staring at on your water to break or to bypass into labor and then you're like "Wow, it truly is totally happening." i love the marvel. :)

Bottom line inducing raises you risk of the need to have a c-section... Just let your body & baby let you know when it is time!!!
