A little boy or girl is screaming in the store..."Mommy, buy me that, I want that toy, that candy bar, ect".

Now that I am older...I want that new plasma screen tv, that Audi convertable, a unit in that new downtown condo...

How does one conquer the desire to keep from wanting and be happy with what they have?

I want an answer!

It has to be taught by the parents...if you bribe your children when they start crying in the store they will do it everytime. I have a 2 and a 3 year old we never go to the toy section. The only thing they ask for at wa-mart is banannas.

You gotta break it down to realizing what is truly important in your life...wants or desires.
Do you want to eat everyday? or Do you desire to eat everyday?
Wants are the important things. Desires are indulgences.
It is OK to save up for an indulgence..like the plasma TV...
Just look around at what you have already...do you actually use all the gadgetry you own?? Will a new gadget complete you in some way? Or will you keep trying to fill a void inside with another one.
You conquer these desires by figuring out what you are trying to fill / or avoid....what is missing inside you, emotionally?

the key is in the parents not buying their kids love with material wealth.

the best way to support your childs needs is with memories, and by that you actually have to spend the time with them. being too busy to create decent memories and buying their love will only require more buying to fill the void that is unloved.

the best way for an adult to stop wanting more is to get off your @ss and do something, travel if you have to. stop being a baby wanting a TV from mom or you will throw a tantrum.

growing up is hard for some, but unless you want to act like a baby all your life it is a must do.

Just think of all the people who are less fortunate than you, the people who don't even know what a cell phone or a PS3 is, the people who don't know if they are going to eat that day or have a place to sleep that night. If you have all this then you are very fortunate and you already got what you deserve. What about the people that haven't?

i was always taught.....
"BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE.....
NOT for what you don't have"
has been my motto since little and helps.
i think of all those unfortunate people, homeless, and sick etc....who may not even be able to buy a meal...let alone a fancy TV!
try being more spiritual and not so materialistic.
charity begins AT HOME.....so share what you have.....
there is also a condition "compulsive shopper" that you may be afflicted with. do a google on that and see if you fit the symptoms....good luck.
