My boyfriend was sent to the emergency room last night and was diagnosed with Strep throat. The doctor also took blood saying that there was a high possibility that he also is sick with mono. We still have not recieve results on the blood test, but the doctor advises that I be seen by my doctor ASAP due to my pregnancy. While I am definitely going, I would like to know why it is viewed as an emergency-type of situation.

What are the possible effects to my unborn child?

It depends what kind of treatment you will have to undergo- what kind of medicines you will take... follow the doctor's orders. Make sure to take fever medicine (Tylenol) when having a fever, because a high fever affects the unborn child.

If you throat is sore from sinus drainage of overuse I would recommend drinking liquid aloe, like Ultimate Aloe. It is an immune system booster without side effects that may harm the baby. It comes in a strawberry-kiwi flavor. If you are suffering from a pregnancy cold or allergies you should consider taking OPC-3. It is a natural supplement that helps your body clean out toxins and pollen and is safe for the baby as well. If you are considering taking pharmaceuticals for your sore throat be very careful because many of them will pass through to the baby. Always check with your doctor before taking medicine, prescription or over the counter when you are pregnant. There is usually a risk scale for side effects versus benefits that they can help you understand.

It may cause you to throw up and that will stop your baby from getting neutriants unless you eat something and it may carry down the disease to your baby and cause it to get it
