The fans always kick on after awhile, and we only have to add antfreeze like once a month our so. If that. I cant really smell antfreeze but sometimes i think it smells like gas. Could i be confussing this? Also any clue what it might cost to fix a head gasket. Or just how much the parts are we have a guy that does the work for free if we just pay for the parts. Also we just had new master cylider put on and somthing in the rear having to to with the breaks. COuld this have anything to do with it? Also we only got the car like 5 months ago and it sat for 3 years prior. Could that be why the anti freeze was low?

Simple: Blown head gasket.
Or at least the gasket has a pinhole leak in it. That's why you don't see the antifreeze, because it's getting pulled into the cylinders and burned.
While it's idling, cup your hand over the exhaust for a couple of seconds, then smell your hand. You should be able to smell traces of antifreeze in the exhaust gases.
You really need to get it fixed before it does overheat and cracks your head. Even if it never overheats completely, continuous running hot will warp the head and then the car won't run.

It sounds like it could be the thermostat going bad. If you are continuing to put antifreeze in the car, then you probably have a leak. Check your heater coil, sometimes especially in older cars they will leak or rupture. In which case, depending on where the location of the heater coil (mostly near the glove box under the hood), you may experience the smell of radiator fluid on the passenger side. It will leak down into the floor sometimes the moisture from the fluid is undetected due to floor mats. So I suggest you check all hoses and have a mechanic check out your thermostat and heater coil.

Check the oil dip stick you could have a bad head gasket, or the electric fan don`t come on.
