When I run over to check on him he jumps up again. He's eating the same and nothing else has really changed.

He does seem to have lost his balance a bit. awww that's what I was afraid of. Thank you.

He may be sick, as he is quite old. 3-4 years is a normal lifespan for a betta in captivity.

There is not really anything you can do at this point. You don't want to use any medications because he is not exhibiting and specific symptoms, and it's not a good idea to medicate for no reason - meds are harsh on fish.

All you can do is keep his water clean and warm, keep feeding him quality foods (fast him 1 day a week and just give him a piece of shelled pea to keep his intestines clear).

Yes he is sick. It sounds like swim bladder disease maybe. Does he seem to have lost his balance. Also this is old, he may just be near the end of his time here.

yes he is sick, i dont like to be the bearer of bad news but he will live for another month unless you do something about it.. I got two for my daughter and the male was fiesty and he finally killed the female but yeah he also acted really bad sick after that he was eating well then he died it may have been where you got him from i got my daughters from wal mart

try feeding him pieces of pea with the shell removed cut up the size of his pellets. he might be starting swim bladder or be constipated. if he doesn't take it right away you can hold it up at the top of the water with tweezers or forceps.
