Hey

Got pins in my elbow after I broke it this weekend. My arm's in a cast. I am curious why my hand looks swollen. It's not red or feverish. Is it water, or blood or some sort of corset-action by the cast. Should I be worried? It looks ugly as sin.

Swelling like how much? Some swelling is normal. Elevate (higher than heart) hand (by propping it) and see if it goes down. If so don't worry. If it is red , feverish or bluish and ice cold, or so swollen the cast is cutting into it go see Dr. immediately. Loosing sensation in fingers also a bad sign. Good luck!

You need to call the Orthopedic MD that reduced the Fx,and set the pins. You need to keep your affected arm elevated on pillows with your hand higher than the elbow, and apply an ice pack to help reduce the swelling etc. It's normal to have some swelling after surgery, but if you think it's getting worse, call the Doc. Call your doc immediately; the doctor probably told you to elevate your arm to prevent swelling. If you don't, you can cut off the circulation in the arm then get an infection or lose the limb. Please call immediately and elevate that arm!!! Godloveya.
