What does it mean to "vacate a sentence"?

To vacate a sentence means that there was error in the judicial determination of the sentence and the sentence is reversed or declared void. However, this does not affect the judgement of guilt regarding the case.

It means to have it declared invalid, inoperable, dissolved. To vacate it means to make it go away.
