It bothers me so much to see postings by "Christians" who come here just to bash! I am a Christian but I cringe every time I see a posting that hurts people. Christ came in love and helped hurting people. Do they not realize that by spewing hatred rather than the Word of God in love turns people off? What experiences have you guys/gals had Christians and what did it make you think of them? Would you ever give another an opportunity to make ammends?
I was just wondering cause I'm mad at some chick who posted something really rude about 5 minutes ago. Thanks to our community board, they removed it :)

The Christians that come as and use the Bible as an instrument of hate, aren't Christians. PERIOD. Unfortunately they give the loving and compassionate Christians like yourself a bad name. It also reinforces the stereotype that all Christians are hatemongers. You are an example of the fact that the stereotype isn't true, and I thank you for that. You're right as well by saying that the hate turns people off. It also makes people afraid of Christians.

As far as what experiences I've had, they haven't been negative ones. I've always made a point of respecting those different from me, whether they are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, right-wing, left-wing or whatever. However, I recently started volunteering for a local GLBT centre where I live as a straight ally. It's always in the back of my mind that whenever I tell people what I do for a living that they will view me in a negative way as if I'm a "sell-out' to the heterosexual population just because I fight for GLBT rights. I won't lie to you. But I do know that there are many people of different religious and ethnic groups that are tolerant and even fight for acceptance of GLBT people like I do. Unfortunately, the hate seems to outnumber the love at times and that is why people are still afraid to be who you are.

It bothers me when young people parrot the prejudices they learned from their parents. Everyone should have to see the movie "American History X" where brothers each pay the ultimate price for the prejudices they learned from their father.

It bothers me, too, when self-proclaimed Christians only quote from the Old Testament (and even then only two verses) and ignore all of Chirst's teachings.

It sounds self-serving, but more and more the evidence indicates that the bashers are denying what they see as their own homosexual leanings, starting with why they feel compelled to enter gay sites in the first place. We try to avoid stereotyping, but Shakespeare nailed it when he had Hamlet observe that "The Queen doth protest too much."

(And "bashing" isn't just saying that you believe homosexuality is a sin. Bashing is saying it over and over, with crude language, and with accusations that gays choose to be gay just to flaunt society and that gays pose a threat to public health or the stability of other people's marriages.)

I think most of the bashers who are claiming to be Christians are just trolls, and really don't care about the subject at hand one way or the other. I would guess they probably don't really have any strong feelings about religion either. They are just here to stir things up and seek attention.

That said, as a lesbian, I have run afoul of many people who call themselves Christians, and I have been condemned verbally, and physically attacked.

I have to say, though, the (very few) true Christians I have met in my life are some of the most worthwhile people I know, people I am very glad to call friend.

It certainly has turned me off the Christian religion, which before I always kept a "opening" back into. But the hate has just overwhelmed me to the point I no longer care to be associated with it in any way, shape, form or fashion.

Why do you bash Christians? True Christians are not the one spreading hate. Many of the people are what I call Bible thumpers. Many can tell you word for word what the bible says but that is not the keys to Heavens Gates. Don't be fooled by the wolves in sheeps clothing when they knock at your door. Just lead your life as an example for the rest of the world to see.

Not really. I find things like that funny. ONly when they're religious based though. It doesnt condem homosexuality in the bible, so its just the pope. It means that somwhere anlong the line, someone decided it was wrong, and that one individuals beliefs have spread. They're all batty, and I truly think its sad that they cant figure these things out for themselves, like you have, but I cant help but laugh at some of the stuff they say!

My experience with hateful christians? FRED PHELPS!

I have had the unfortunate experience of running into his group/family of haters at numerous GLBT rallies, gay/lesbian funerals, Gay Pride Parades and sadly even a funeral of a family friend who's son was killed in Iraq!
This kid was a soldier, a good man, a loving husband and devoted father. But the Phelps group went to his funeral and carried signs saying it was because of gays that he was killed! They carried signs saying "Thank God For IED's" (for those who don't know an IED is an "improvised Explosive Devise") and "God Hates America" and "When Soldiers Die, God Laughs!" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers"

I'll never forget these images and how they truly damaged that family in mourning.

Just because as a Christian one says that homosexuality is a sin why is that bashing? If I say it is a sin to live with someone out of wedlock am I bashing you? If I say that it is a sin to lust after someone am I bashing you then? I am sorry the truth hurts but I am not sorry for telling the truth.

Thanks for that Chick-a-dee. I happen to be an Eclectic Wiccan and Transsexual, and I've had my fair share of bashers, both online and off. I try not to judge people, especially not by the actions of others of the "same" group, so absolutely. Not that you need make amends for the ingorant actions of idiots though.

those supposed christians are really mentally ill people lashing out in their confusion and pain.

there really is no connection between christianity and the hateful posters except their own claims of it.

even the bible says satan will appear in many guises and my guess is that the hateful posters are actually demonic spirits.
