They give you a slow drip of nicotene. Effectively keeping you addicted to the chemical you are trying to free yourself from. Cold turkey is the only way to free yourself properly. You must detox from the nicotene. The first 72 hours is the most crucial. After that, it's all in your head.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

Personally, I don't like any of them. But they work like cigs, giving you nicotine but in chemical form over inhaled form.

This breaks the habit of having something in your mouth and hand, one of the hard habits to break. The first set of patches give you normal nicotine levels then over time the patches stair step you down for less and less.

If you smoke even 1 cig on these products it will make you so ill from what I have heard and seen. They are not cheap at all. Locally I have seen cold laser treatments for cig smokers but haven't heard if it works.

This year I am stopping too. My plan from all my other failed attempts is a simple stair step. I smoke a pack a day. So first week I smoke normal. Next week I remove 1 cig from each daily pack. The following week I remove 2, then 3, then 4 and so forth. Step it down 1 per day per week until I have quit.

This way I do not suffer withdraw, emotional issues or go on eating binges. To me this is the rational way to quit as stair stepping up is how we began in the first place.

The patch has a sort of time release setup that periodicaly runs nicotine through your system in an attempt to prevent the urge to smoke. The pill is pretty much the same thing.

The patches and pills contain ONLY nicotine, which is the addictive agent in cigarettes. Nicotine isn't great, but it isn't as bad as all the other things that result from burning the cigarette - it's all of those by-products that result from burning the cigarette that cause cancers.

So patches and pills satsify your craving for nicotine, but you avoid all the other nasty chemicals found in cigarettes. The idea is that you slowly ween yourself from the nicotine.

The pills and patches usually contain nicotine so that you really aren't quitting cold turkey, it helps you gradually break the addiction.

They do make the process last longer in quitting but if you have the will power to quit then they do help ease the process, but if you dont have the will power than nothing will do,
