Every 3 min. or so my toilet tank water level goes down about 1 inch, and fills back up again, why? It never did this before. I can hear it running every couple of minutes? What to do?

depending on whether or no you have an older style tank (one with the ball at the top for a float) or a newer style (one with a flapper at the bottom). If it is a newer style, you may have to replace the flapper which is not tough at all. Just drain all the water out of the tank by shutting off the water and flushing to drain it all out of the tank. The flapper should have "ears" or hooks to attach it. Buy a universal flapper at your local home improvement store-about $10 and swap it out. If you have an older style tank, the best thing to do is swap out the whole thing. Buy a flapper and fill tube assembly-about $20-and follow the instructions according to the type of toliet that you have. Hope this helps.

The flapper is not seating properly or it is possibly cracked or damaged in some way.The flapper is the black plug that the chain pulls up when you push on the lever to flush. Turn the water off using the valve at the base of the toilet then flush the toilet and hold the lever until the tank is empty. After removing the tank lid just reach in and check for damage on the flapper. If none place it back where you got it and check that it sits properly (like a plug in the bath no spaces for water to pass).Turn the water back on to refill the tank. If this does not help call a plumber.

The problem is the flapper in the bottom. This is the part that lifts up when the handle is pushed down. Easy fix. Turn off the water at the shutoff near the tank. Flush the toilet so the water drains out. Remove the flapper an take to the hardware store to find a replacement.

I would have to agree with servicte. Sounds like the flapper may be worn out and slightly warped. When this happens the water slowly drains to the point where the toilet will refill itself..

The chain that goes from the flapper to the lever is too long and is getting hung up on something, thereby holding the flapper open...shorten it up until there is very little slack in it...

I guess it 'does' work technically, but its the dumbest way possible to lose weight. 1) Your body doesn't feel healthy, and believe it or not... your body doesn't WANT to be fat. It will burn the calories for you if it is a happy body. 2) Most people who stop taking laxatives pack weight on twice as fast, with more sometimes! This is why fad diets don't work either. If you can't keep the diet up forever, then you can't keep the weight off forever either. It is not magic. Therefore it doesn't help you to lose weight. it is a messed up illusion. Why do you think you only see teenagers doing it?

Before you replace the flapper, make sure the chain that lifts it up and down is not getting caught under it because its come loose

Sometimes you just need to flush a second time - and your toilet is nice enough to do that for you automatically.

If you are still worried, grab the ballcock with your hand and work on it a while. If that doesn't work, then pull out the ball cock as well as the other parts and take them to a hardware store and see if they have a ball cock that fits your needs.
