Do you think I may have already harmed my baby? This is really worrying me. I found out Friday, and I haven't smoked since, but I'm still worried.

ok some people's answer to this is just plain scary! yes, we all know of people who smoked and drank through a pregnancy and had perfectly healthy babies, but that's no reason to make it seem like no big deal!

That being said, 4 weeks is very early, and I highly doubt you've harmed your baby, but good for you for quitting as soon as possible. I wouldn't stress over it, there's nothing you can do now except continue to NOT smoke, and make sure you eat healthy, exercise ect. Good luck

No you should not worry... Although many people are probably going to disagree! I smoked the first couple months with my son and he was born 2 weeks early and weighed 8 lbs 8 oz.. You need to not worry the baby will be fine! Good job for stopping smoking! I am glad I quit too just try not to start back up!!

My other son I smoked the whole time not a whole lot but he was 7 lbs 10 oz and was also 2 weeks early ! Hope ya feel better now!!!!!!!!!!

No, everything is fine. I smoked with my first until I was a month along(didnt know I was pregnant either) I also smoked with my second(didnt know either. I had started back up again after I had the first baby. But anyways, my babies were all perfect. If you are 4 weeks, then the baby has only been getting things from you for about 2 weeks now. THe first 2 weeks are the time from ovulation , conception, to your missed period. A few days before you missed period is when the baby was attached and began to get nutrients. Dont worry about it at all. :)

First, take a deep (non-smokey) breath. Relax. You're fine. The baby's fine. I smoked for nearly a month before I found out I was pregnant. Unless you were a chain smoker, you're most likely all right. Little babies in utero are amazingly resilient. You're doing the right thing by not smoking now. One good thing is that I didn't even crave a smoke after I found out! May you be as lucky. Just keep yourself relaxed, try not to worry over all the little things, eat to your heart's content and keep a smile on. Best of luck!

Hey there. I was a heavy smoker when I found out at about 4 weeks along that I was pregnant. I quit immediately when I found out and never smoked again.
My kid came out ok, and he is a happy, healthy, gifted 16 year old soccer star now.
You probably don't need to worry. At least you had sense enough to quit when you found out you were preggers. Some problems that result from the mother smoking during pregnancy can crop up YEARS later in the form of learning disabilities, allergies, and even asthma later in life.
You did the right thing to quit.
Peace

No your baby is fine I didn't find out I was pregnant with my first son till I was 2 months along and I was smoking 2 packs aday I cut down to 5 since my doctor told me not to stop cold turkey becuase they worried about misscarrage with me since I smoked so much they didn't want my body to reject the baby while I was going to withdrawl. I never quiet but I never smoked around my baby once he was born (he was perfect and still is at 1 1/2 years old) we don't smoke in the house or in the car with him and if we go out to eat we sit in none smokeing I am pregnant with our second child now and cut down from 1 pack to 2 cigs a day I am working on quitting this time all together but once again they told me not to go cold turkey so congrates that you are good just talk to your doctor. Congrates on the baby and it will be healthy and beautiful I am glade you are stronger then most of us that do smoke!!!!!

I DO NOT want to encourage smoking while pregnant, I am only sharing this story to reassure you. My friend was on the pill when she got pregnant, she didn't find out she was until close to 12-16 weeks. During which time she partied (drank)excessively & smoked. She also continued smoking through her pregnancy. Her baby had a low birth weight and had RSV you can check that out at this link: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/respiratory/rsvfeat.htm
But other than that, she was perfect, she is a beautiful 7 year old now, (who lives with her grandparents.)
It is great that you stopped!!! Try to stay quit even after the birth. It is better all around for you & the baby! Congrats!

I doubt that you will hurt your baby. My mother smoked the entire time she was pregnat with me and I am have. I even do very well in school. Although it can harm the baby, it doesn't happen very much. But I am not telling you to do it. Congrats on stopping a lot of people don't.

Your baby will be just fine. I hate to admit it but I smoked throughout my whole entire pregnancy. (I know - I'm bad) and there is not one thing wrong w/my baby. She is perfectly fine. Well, she did have formula issues, but that has nothing to do w/smoking. She just has a sensitive tummy. As long as you quit, you are good to go! Don't worry. Bub is fine! I smoked like 10 cigs a day when I was preggers. I was smoking Newport 100s but switched to Newport Light 100s and everything is fine. Now that I had her, I am up to a pack a day but I never went back to regular Newports.
