i posted this question earlier but was not specific enough... when i start the car when it is cold i get a whirring noise from a plastic casing to the right of the engine, it lasts for approx 1 minute then stops. it sounds like a fan but i have no idea what it actually is. i am sure it is meant to do what it is doing but i would love to know what it is for. i have a friend who has exactly the same car but when he starts his vectra his box does not make a noise at all and he is now worried that something is wrong with his car.. please diagnose this for us you lovely people

wierd! my car has a whirring noise when it starts up for about 30 seconds but a friend with the same model and similar age doesn't.

Mine stops if i turn down the power of the heating fan.

I haven't taken time out to check but reckon its just a slightly knackered fan? Could be the same with yours?

it could be the viscus fan, sometimes they don't run free from the initial start up,, had this on a BMW and a vauxhall
