In the past year, my 10 year old has had some bad abdominal cramping a couple of times that could not be traced back to food, illness, etc. Is this her body's way of letting us know that soon she'll start menstruating?

Very possible.

Could well be! Tell her to make sure she's wearing pads when she gets cramps (Oh, and I highly recommend the Mooncup when she's older - holds more stuff than a tampon, she can use it even if she has vaginal infection (As long as it's cleaned!) and you don't have to go out and buy a new one all the time, so they're environmentally sound too!

When i got my first period *this is going on 9 years or so* i didn't have any signs. I had no clue what the heck it was. I don't have any sisters, and my mom didnt menstrate anymore, due to complications after my youngest brother was born.

not really. you should take her to a doc . U might just leave an undiagnosed reason for those pains .It's not wise to make ur own assumptions here. Its a question of ur child after all.
