I have a 3.0 intel 4 ht processor, 2 gb of 3200 RAM, and a 9250 256kb ati vid card (pci): I think my graphics should run more smoothly than they are running. Winamps visualizations run choppy, even with resolution set low, most games run poorly, some games like "Scarface" are unplayable. Is it time to go duo core or do you think I have a setting messed up somewhere.

Yes, my onboard video drivers are off.

1: If your video card has 256kb RAM onboard, then you're screwed. I think you mean 256MB

2: Are you using a PCI video card, or PCI-E? If you're using a PCI card, then its time to get a new one. PCI cards aren't going to give you high graphics quality for today's games. PCI-E will though.

3: Could be you're using old drivers. Make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your video card.

4: Could be your monitor. What kind is it? What refresh rates does it support?

5: Check with your MOBO manufacturer about BIOS updates that may resolve known issues with your Video / Motherboard

running that kind of system, you should not use your onboard video card. Check and see if you have a PCI Express slot, and if you do upgrade your video card to a pci express x16 card. Nvidia is making the leading cards right now. I have 3 computers all running nvidia cards and graphics are awesome. BFG brand nvidia cards are the best. I am running battlefield 2 on highest possible graphics settings on a 32" LCD with only a 2.8GHz AMD system. I have a 256MB BFG brand Nvidia GeForce 8750. Totally recommend. But you should update your drivers first off, if you dont feel like spending any money........ Hope this helps

PCI graphics cards won't give you very much performance. AGP interface graphic cards are much better than regular PCI ones. AGP interface cards have been replaced by the even better PCI Express x16 interface cards . The 9250 is a low-end card too. You should upgrade your system to the newer PCI Express x16 graphics and use at least a mid-range video card.

with out understanding greater approximately your laptop it particularly is impossible to assert what the terrific improve direction could be. A video card and pics card are in simple terms diverse names for an identical concern. Getting one will strengthen the overall performance of pics on the laptop yet no longer basic overall performance. in case you laptop is many times very sluggish, then it particularly is totally probable you elect greater RAM. Getting greater RAM will in all risk furnish a bigger develop than a pics card even though it particularly is hard to assert with out understanding your contemporary laptop specs.

your specs are good, but your video card y poor, y dont believe that you have 256 kb on your video card, you must buy a new, i have an nVidia GeForce 6100 with 512mb its good, but it still old. the best video card is the SLI system, from nVidia. At least get a 256 MB video card.
