Ok, I am unsure as the next steps I should take. I need to confirm that the home test was correct with a blood test but do I go to an ob/gyn for that? I have an appointment with an ob/gyn coordinator but will they expect me to have already taken a blood test? I am so confused! Someone please explain to me the steps I should take.

I called my OB/GYN when I found out, and they set up an appointment for me for when I would be 8 weeks along. They never questioned my positive test, but doing blood work is part of the routine first visit.

Good luck!

You don't have to confirm with a blood test right away, most doctors trust the results of the home test enough that they will schedule you for an appointment. However, the first time you see the doctor may not be until you are 8-10 weeks pregnant, which means if you took the test right when you miss your period it could be up to 6 more weeks before you see a doctor. You will probably meet with a nurse before that who will take your medical history, explain the doctor's costs and appointments, and figure out your due date based on your last period. Once you see the doctor you may have an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy as well as a blood test to test the level of pregnancy hormone in your blood. For now, start a prenatal vitamin if you haven't already, don't take any hot baths or sit in a hottub, of course don't drink or smoke (if you are a smoker it may not be best to quit cold turkey if you are a heavy smoker, but get a quit plan together and start cutting back). Keeping up with your regular exercise plan is fine, so is sex (although you may have some bleeding after sex because the membranes bleed more easily due to pregnancy hormones, if you start bleeding during pregnancy the first question the doctor always asks is if you've had sex recently). Find a good pregnancy book ("What to expect when you are expecting" is not the best book out there, I found it more cautionary than actually informational), I suggest "Your Pregnancy & Birth", published by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Congratulations!

After I found out I was pregnant, the first thing I did was set up an appointment with an OB/GYN. When you're at the appointment, they'll do a urine sample, check your weight, go over your health history, and perhaps listen to the heart beat if you're far enough along. Sometimes a blood test is required on the first appointment, but other times they just check your urine to confirm the pregnancy. This is your doctor from now on, and you can always run to him/her for future check ups or questions regarding your pregnancy. In the meantime, you might want to register for a few good pregnancy websites so you can follow your baby's development and receive some information about health, exercise, etc. Some good sites are www.babycenter.com and www.pregnancyweekly.com. Of course, don't simply depend on websites during your entire pregnancy. Always turn to your doctor first since every body is different. Good luck and congratulations!

Hello woman! If you took a home PG test chances are it is correct the only time they come back positive is if you are pregnant they test for a hormone called hcg and the only time that hormone is present in you body id when you are pregnant. I would probably take another test. You don't have to get a blood test taken to confirm that you are pregnant. 1st you need to decide if you are going to go to your regular family Dr. and check to see if he does OB care or if you want an Ob/Gyn for your Ob care then call and tell the Dr. that you choose that you need to make an appointment to confirm pregnancy and tell them you have a positive pregnancy test result, they will schedule your appointment. They will do another pregnancy test and a pap the pap smear is for the Dr. to look at the color of your cervix and to feel if it is soft. Good Luck!

No need to be confused - if you have one call you family doctor and then they will refer you to an OB/GYN. Or if you already have a OB/GYN just call the nurse and let them know that you took a pregnancy test and it was positive.

They might require a blood test - however the pregnancy test are very acurate.

Sit back and enjoy the fact that you have a little life growning inside you. I loved being pregnant!!!

Congratulations!! Now that you have called an OB/GYN . Here are a couple things I had to do. There are several test that need to be done. My Dr. did a blood test to see how high my hormone levels were. Your Dr. will also test your blood to make sure you are pregnant.(Mine Did) They may also do a ultrasound to find out the due date depending upon when your last menstrual period was. After all this they will schedule you for a normal check-up. Make sure you start taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid pills. *Good Luck and I hope you have a Happy HEALTHY pregnancy!!!!!!!!!*

Yes, just make an appointment with an OB/GYN and they will get you in to do a blood test. If it comes up positive they will schedule your first prenatal visit from there. That appointment is usually when you are about 10 weeks along. They will conclude when that is by going off you LMP.(Last Menstrual Period). And you should begin taking Prenatal Vitamins now. Good Luck and Congrats!

Go to an ob/gyn or your regular doctor for your 1st pre-natel visit because getting a positive on a test is always ususally right.
They will take your blood and write you out vitamins. They will also do a pap on you. Just go to the doctor. Good luck
