I'm actually an optimist. The level of freedom and prosperity in the world is increasing greatly, despite all the news you read. Progress is being made in renewable energy, agriculture, and communications. More and more diseases are being understood and managed, if not cured outright.
Essentially, if some terrorists do not blow up New York, the world will be a far better place in fity years.
