I was diagnosed Bipolar and have various physical and emotional issues. They say they are related to my abusive childhood and I wonder if thats true. Was I just born with the predetermined chemical makeup for problems or did my childhood create them?

many people are genetically predisposed to various illnesses, including mental illness. If you are genetically predisposed to mental illness and you have an abusive childhood then you are more likely to develop the mental illness than someone who is also predisposed but does not endure an abusive childhood.

does that make sense?

In our early years you will find that our brains are at what i call "Cortex Development" which is basically the development of our brains and our psyche. Disorders that come about later on in life are 95% of the time due to a stagnation of emotion in the mind from a past event that embedded itself into your head developing a cerebral net that expands turning into something more then just a memory but an illness!

even in a bad situation someone can focus on the things their parents did right. After all, they didn't do everything wrong and many people become more sensitive to others having experienced rough times

However, just as one example, people like Jim Conway have written books concerning adult children of real or emotional divorce and explained there are many long term effects... can they be overcome ... of course... do they affect you..yes

latp02 we don't have the power to rule our own bodies, let alone rule over the whole Earth. LOL God (any God) did NOT give humanity the authority to rule over anything but our own minds and spirits, period. If you think you have the authority to rule the Earth, briefly, repeal the law of gravity and step off a 4 foot counter. I guarantee that you WILL fall, no matter how much you call on the authority of God to enforce your ruling. We have NO authority over the Earth whatsoever, in fact it is quite the other way around. Earth rules over US. Brighest Blessings, Raji the Green Witch

if your childhood didn't allow you to learn to cope with it, then you'll come out worse.

that is what psychologist call nurture vs. nature. Was it heredity, or enviornment? In your case I would say it is both.
