People need to stop thinking school is a damn free daycare. We have to work more than 8 hour days at times. Papers dont grade themselves. We have behavior issues to deal with, uncooperative parents. Meetings lesson plans home visits. We become that kids third parent and in many cases their first or second. YET people have the nerve to say we do NOTHING??? I guess this world is going to the dump. The only way we will become number one in education is if we use the bombs and guns we buy (With money which should be used for education!) to kill everyone else better than us. So we would have to exterminate the world! I bet republicans would love that HUH? Then all the worlds resources would be at their disposal! Teachers should get paid more, the simple fact that we make the leaders of tommarrow. Without us no one would know how to read and write and add and subtract and all the basics that would lead everyone else to become a functional citizen of society. We have the best job and most important job in the world. Sadly people dont see that!

There isn't enough value place on what we do. As exemplified by previous answers, we get too much vacation time, only work half days etc. I would like to challenge people whole think along these lines to volunteer at a school for a whole day (or even better a week) just to witness what the average teacher has to do.

We don't get paid well because no one really understands how difficult the job is. People think that because you get the summer off (unpaid...they prorate your check if you're lucky.), have holidays, and work a shorter day (in theory and depending on what kind school you are in, because I work an 8 hour day) we have it easy. No one can understand the true stress of it all unless they do it.

Because school districts are cheap!
They expect teachers, who have Master degree, and more experience teaching than they do, but pay them very little, so they get the big salaries..It sucks, but it is true..ask any teacher!

It is better to pay for a bomb than to teach a child. That is the logic that prevails. Dont teach the child, dont feed the homeless, dont take care of the sick, but by all means, buy that jet, those tanks and the bombs, becuse we need them more than we need people that think.

They get paid fine IMO. They work half days, have good benefits & tons of vacation time but all they do is gripe about money.
