No more incorrect than using it to identify a homosexual person.

Gay truly means "happy, joyous, effervescent..etc..."

So does the fact that I am not homosexual mean that I cannot be happy....

Never heard of "gay" used to denote "stupid." It's much more offensive to use "queer" for "gay," or to use "dumb" to describe a deaf person. If you do hear somebody using "gay" when they mean "stupid," then yes, it's incorrect word usage and they need to be taken to task over it. That's as bad as using any ethnic label to denote the same thing.

Over the centuries the word "gay" has had many meanings from "merry and cheerful" to prostitution in the 18th and 19th centuries - a gay woman or a gay house - to homosexual men in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It has always maintained the "merry, bright, cheerful" meaning while having the others as well.

The modern use of it, however, is a pejorative with the word taken directly from its meaning of "homosexual". It is offensive to gay people and to many straight people as well.

Yes and dated.

We used that when I was in grade school which was 20+ years ago :(

At that age I only knew it meant stupid. Once I grew up and realized it had other meanings I dropped it.

Same with "spaz" we used to call hyper friends "spaz" until found out it was from spastic, which is infliction of disabled or ill people.

Yes because in all reality, gay, by definition is either happy, or a homosexual. I'm not really sure on the last one.

when i was younger "gay" meant queer now my kids use the term for something that is stupid and bares no relevance to queers, it is not intended to offend anyone and it doesn't really bother me too much. I do however hate it when words are changed such as "the" to "da"

Yes, I do.
People would be in uproar if Black, Hispanic, any other group of people became synonymous with stupid.
