Many people have wondered what caused small communities (like Salem) to suddenly get "witch fever" and start basically lynching their neighbors and even friends. Once current theory is ergot. It is a kind of fungus that grows on rye when it is wet. Ergot when ingested causes convulsions, hallucinations, even death. Over time these symptoms became associated with witchcraft and when they appeared people immediately suspected witches. According to this theory, the Salem witch hunts started when, at the end of a wet year people got ergot poisoning and started blaming their bizarre symptoms on witches in their community. It ended when the rotten rye had been eaten and the symptoms stopped. Other people suggest that the witch trials were prolonged by a group of young women who, generally having no power in society, suddenly discovered a way in which they could have the ultimate power of life and death and became consumed with this power. These people suggest that the witch trials ended, not due to the end of ergot poisoning in the community, but due to the fact that the young women tried to push their power too far, and those in the community realized that they were being manipulated.

Now what you're able to do is pass to the library, get a e book on Salem, and spend some particularly time examining. Or, failing that, a minimum of have the decency to study the Wikipedia website. particularly, you may answer a number of those questions your self in an hour or 2.

There was a witch hunt in Salem, but no proof of actual witchcraft was ever found.

It started by you opening up your textbook and actually doing your assignment you lazy, jerk of a teenager. It ended when you finally get a C+ on your terrible report (that you stole pretty much word for word from Wikipedia).

Do you HW and get off of the internet. Maybe just maybe, if you start reading intelligent literature instead of going on Yahoo! answers / watching MTV all day long, you will be more useful than a sack of potatoes

Yahoo "Salem Witch Trials" and READ.

It's a very good story.
And I hate reading.
Or just watch the movie.
It's on HBO sometimes.
