How does that translate to the temperature in the US? I expect that it has to be at least 100+ degrees in Australia....

Yep, the weather can get nasty here in Melbourne. They have extreme heat rules to prevent players from dropping dead.
The extreme heat rules rely on a complex calculation of "ambient air temperature, humidity and a measurement of the sun's intensity, combined with a sustained absolute temperature above 35C."

You are right. 40 Degrees Celsius is abt 104 degrees Fahrenheit. I think the majority of countries in the world use the Celsius option to display temperature.

This is what makes this sport one of the top three toughest sports to play. Different surfaces and different environments!
And yes...the court does nothing but store and intensify the heat and reflect it back up to the player. Its like being in an oven with heat comming up from the bottom as well as from on top!
You show me group of better atheletes than tennis players...maybe as good...but non better!

so 40C corresponds to 104F. The temperature of the court surface is probably in the 110-115 range.

40 is celcius... it is about 105 farenheit
and to the protennis coach dude... i would like to see a tennis player (other than gael monfils, he's a freak of nature) dunk a basketball... basketball players are by far the greatest athletes in the world

Um...being able to dunk doesn't automatically qualify you as a great athlete. It all depends on your perspective, and your definition of athlete.
