I have to agree with some of the other people here, this sounds like a bunch of crap. I know that you can determine the sex of the child way before the 7th month! If by some chance your question is true, then I sincerely hope that your niece/nephew is OK.

I watched my son gradually recover in a NICU for a month before I was able to take him home. He is now 1 years old, walking and talking.. no developmental issues! Deffinatly a success story, so know that they do exist.

I really don't know anything about treatment or diagnosis of kidney function nor do I know much about the breathing machines that they use! But I do know how frustrating and soul depleting the whole process can be on new parents and family members.

Your Brother and Sister in law are going to need alot of support right now. It's hard not to blame yourself when something like this happens and post-partum depression can become very severe. Make sure that you are offering your assistance in anyway that you can, even if it's bringing them a meal to the hospital, or offering a ride. While they are at the hospital maybe you can help clean their house or watch their pets. Any little thing that you can do to help simplify their lives would be a miracle for them at this time.

Regardless of how well your nephe/ niece recovers there are still going to be many trials once the baby comes home. She most likely will be put on a heart monitor to make sure that she is breathing well and that her heart is functioning properly. They may prescribe Caffeine or something else that will help to stimulate her heart.

I wish your family all the best and hope for the best possible outcome for all of you! Be well and make sure that your family does the same!

Take Care :)

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Let me just say I am the mother of a former preemie myself. I also had an emergency c-section, but luckily I was able to hold my baby girl until 33.3 weeks and she weighed 3lbs. 7.4oz.. She stayed 3 weeks in NICU. She is a healthly and rambuncious 2yr.old now. My husband's nephew and his wife had a baby that was born at
6mths. gestation. She weighed 1lb. 8oz. they told her mom and dad to spend as much time with her, because ALL of the doctors said she would NOT make it. Her first few months were rough, she had an infection, she was taken off the vent to be put back on later...etc. At 3mths. she came home. She will be one in May. She is fat and more healthy looking than some of the full term babies I know. The only side effect because of the prematurity will be R.O.P (she will need eyeglasses). There is hope and the NICU can be a roller coaster, just be there for your brother and sister in law and do what ever you can to help, be it a helping with shopping, lending an ear,....etc. They DO get better. God Bless and Keep your family.

Baby's have fully formed genitals at 13 weeks gestation, and theyre clearly visible by 15 weeks, especially to the naked eye and not just an ultrasound.

I find it hard to believe they dont know the gender of a 28 week baby out of the womb. Besides that, they'd have to be doing blood work on the baby to monitor its kidney development and functionality, which means they would be able to tell the gender with blood, if by nothing else.

You can google stories about micro premies on the net. There's been quite a few who manage to survive. The medical field is always expanding in this area to try to save as many of them as possible.

Your family is in my prayers. I delivered my daughter by c-section at 7 months also. She weighed 3 lbs 2 ounces. My daughter is eight months and healthy. She now weighs 16 pounds. So, there's always hope. Don't give up. Lift your eyes to the hills from which cometh your help. All of your help comes from above. Be blessed!!

My prayers are with you, the family and especially the baby. My five year old grandson was born by cesarian at 7 months and a similar birth weight. He was in an incubator for about 5 weeks and at birth was so tiny I was afraid to touch him using those gloves that are installed in the wall of the incubator, I thought I might hurt him. Today the technology to ensure the development of premies is very advanced and respiratory and kidney problems are common and something the personell in neo natal intensive care are well trained to deal with. I understand your fear, I was afraid too. Keep the faith and God will soon have you playing with a happy healthy five year old as I do. God Bless.

many, many, many babies are born each year at seven months gestation. I personally had twin cousins born at 1 lbs and less than 1 lbs. ( and they turned out perfect and are 10 years old) I know that it's scary, but i'm the doctors and nurses know what they are doing. Breathing machines are VERY common in the NICU. The best thing to do would be to support your sister.

About the gender thing....that's sort of impossible...sex organs develope in the third month....not so sure about that...

I'm sorry for your troubles, but I am quite sure the doctors could tell the gender of even a very small baby, since babies develop sex organs early in the second trimester of pregnancy. Also, seeing as how doctors can even determine a baby's sex by looking at fuzzy pictures on a sonogram, I'm pretty sure they can figure it out on a preemie. Anyway, though, best wishes for your sister-in-law and her baby.

A lot of prayer. Babies can do very well being born at 7 months. I'm thinking that because of all the problems and lack of gender the baby was born earlier than that. My friend just delivered a stillborn baby at 4 months and his gender was obvious.

Honey, I'm sure the baby will be absolutely fine. My nephews were born by caesarian at 7 months - one was 5lbs 3oz, the other was only 3lb 1oz. They're both strong and healthy now.

The care given to babies is second to none these days.

We will all keep our fingers crossed, and those who do pray will, I'm sure, pray for mum and baby.

xxxxxx
