I have been back since 2005 and I am starting to notice behavior such as alcholism and extreme moments of anger. Before I left I was not like this. Are these signs of PTSD and what treatment is there for this?

After my husband got back from Iraq we noticed some signs of PTSD but not for a year after he had been back. It happened when I had taken the kids down to see their Grandma over the summer and he stayed behind to work. He had never been left alone since being in Iraq and really had a total meltdown. It really could have torn our marriage apart but we saw it for what it might be and both of us made a plan to work through the tough time. What I am trying to say is PTSD is different for everyone. If you notice you are doing things you never used to do and cannot explain why (ie: drinking more then normal but not because you have suddenly developed a great liking for the taste of beer) then I would contact the nearest VA hospital (if your ex military) and make an appt to see one of their counselors. This can be a very tough time in your life but if you get the right help you can work through this. I applaud you in recognizing whats going on..its the first step in the right direction. Good Luck hun.

there's no "one in common words" treatment for ptsd that works. A therapist chum has had good success with toddlers using EMDR and some with EFT. It does take someone with a particular understand-how of doing it with toddlers. As an individual EMDR helped me more effective than something. EMDR if only a device. desires to be utilized by technique of a robust practitioner who has different "approaches" and an expert with childrens might want to be needed in my opinion. enable me understand if i'll help

Iraq?

Check the VA in your area. They have treatment programs for it.

Quit Drinking, head to AA meetings, get a sponsor and start working the steps.

First, thanks for going and I appreciate what you were willing to do for us. Don't know how you handle all the debate on the News. Turn that s*** off and that might help. Yes, I can tell from here------you are the lucky winner!! Do you have a good MD that you can talk to and get some medication to get through the re-entry? If not, ask about doctors BEFORE you make appts. and save yourself the cash. Of course I would head straight for my G.I. rights to medical care!!! They owe you. We ALL do. So that's it from a dumb blonde with a cartoon face. ( You get what you pay for!!!!!) Thanks again. Good Luck!!! @8=)
