It's like how was Illinois named and Wisconsin and all that stuff?
Was like the person who discovered the state named by that person?

depends on which state we talking about

Utah was named after the utes

Georgia was named to honor King George
Carolinas for King Charles
New York to honor Lord of York(after it was taken from Holland as originally it was new Holland, and New York was new Amsterdam)
Florida(spanish) because it had lot of flowers
Mississppi for the river that was named by Indians

The Native Americans who lived in what is now Illinois called themselves the Illini. French explorers named the area Illinois, which means (roughly) Land of the Illini.

as with all things, various names came from various things. Illinois, and I believe Wisconsin as well, all came from native amaerican words. Ohio comes from the shanee language. Many states were named from english or french settlement. Georgia, Maryland, Louisiana, etc

The ones you mention were American Indian names. The ones on the east coast like New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire were named after parts of England. Pennsylvania was named after its founder William Penn. Each state has its own unique history of how it got its name.

Actually this is a really good story. There was a guy that travelled with Amerigo Vespucci and he was a poet. After they arrived here this man stayed. He was actually part of the group that was with Lewis and Clark. When they travelled across what is now the United States he was in charge of naming the territories. He came up with the names most of the time after sipping some of the liquor they had pilfered from the Indians.

in texas, we got our name from two indian tribes who got along to make a functioning state and wanted to name it "Tejas" which means friends
