They should be treated the same way they treated the animal

They should be thrown in the lion enclosure at the zoo to be tortured BY animals. (Heh, heh, heh!)

Seriously, people who torture and kill animals have serious psychological problems that they need to get help for. Many studies link the torture and killing of animals with future torture and murder of other human beings, so this is not to be taken lightly. Anyone who tortures or kills an animal deliberately should get jail time to send a firm message that this is unacceptable, anti-social behaviour. But even more importantly, they need to get psychological counseling to figure out why they feel compelled to inflict pain and suffering on creatures that are smaller and/or weaker than they are so that this violent behavior doesn't escalate.

And people who maybe don't purposefully torture animals, but are just cruel and neglectful to animals out of ignorance need to have any animals they own taken away and need to get some serious education. The wildlife shelter I used to volunteer at used to take on people who were assigned community service for animal cruelty crimes. They weren't allowed to touch the animals and were closely supervised when around animals--they had to do pooper scooper patrol and wash dishes and the like--but the hope was that being in the shelter environment gave them the opportunity to learn more about animals and to develop some respect and compassion. Of course, I'm not sure if the lessons really stuck, but it was a nice idea.

They should be treated the same way they treated the animal. Bet they'd never do it again (if they survived). People that torture and kill animals are the ones that grow to torture and kill people. If they were stopped early, I don't think people would complain too much!

I think they should be treated like any other dangerous criminal. People who will hurt animals with out any guilt will probably move on to hurting people without any guilt. It takes a special kind of nutcase to be able to look into the face of a loving trusting animal and cause it any harm.. and a person like this cannot be trusted. they need to be thrown in jail.

They should be treated the same way they treated the animal. We are dealing with this right now. My ex's neighbor just pitchforked my ex's dogs to death for no reason except that he somehow finds pleasure in it. The police will do what they can.To bad they wouldn't let us at him. He deserves the same. I also feel he is dangerous to humans and anything else that breathes.

I hate people who torture animals! I think they should be tortured themselves, and they go to hell. People should hit them with metal bats, and whips, and hit them with glass, and a lot of bad things should happen to them. =]
