The Kinsey Reports of 1948 and 1953 stated 37% of males and 13% of females had homosexual experiences, but this includes incidental homosexual experience. The study reported 10% of males being more or less exclusively homosexual and 2% to 6% of females being more or less exclusively homosexual.
A 1990 study (Homosexuality/Heterosexuality by McWhirter, Sanders, and Reinisch) stated 13.95% of males and 4.25% of females had "extensive" or "more than incidental" homosexual experience.
A 1993 study (The Janus Report on Sexual Behavior) found 9% of men and 5% of women were involved in frequent or ongoing homosexual experiences, but only 4% of men and 2% of women called themselves homosexual. This difference can be attributed as those who were 'out' and those who were 'closeted'.

It appears that the number of male homosexuals is approximately 11% and the number of female homosexuals is approximately 4%. It also appears that only half of those who are truly homosexual are "out".

Since there have been fewer studies on bisexuality, the use of the Kinsey figures would lead to a conclusion of 27% male bisexuals and 9% female bisexuals.

Figures irregardless of gender would lead to a conclusion of 7.5% completely homosexual and 18% bisexual for a total of both homosexual and bisexuals being 25.5%.

There are no actual reports because so many are still in the closet. It is estimated that 10% of the population is Gay or Lesbian. The US Census last survey did check out the number of households with people living together of the same sex, but that does not indicate the number of people that are single and gay. The United Kingdom did a survey a couple of years ago and came up with 6% of the population being Gay/Lesbian.

Unfortunately, no survey will ever be valid because the survey looks at total population. The total population includes individuals that would not be and can not be included in the survey as they can in other surveys. For example a 5 year white catholic girl can be included in a race, creed, sex and age survey but not include in a Gay/Lesbian Survey. Where as 20 years later she could be included as a factor of the survey.

I have been paying very close attention to this kind of thing for about a month and a half now and i was told that 50 percent of the worlds population have had or thought strongly about gay intimacy but there are only about 10 to 15 percent that are truly gay ( that's still pretty good )

A book called "The Sixth Man" (for obvious reasons) written by a straight reporter claimed that one in six was homosexual, but most stats say one in ten. I think Kinsey said one in ten. The one in six may have meant gay whether they knew it or not, and the one in ten may just mean the ones that are admittedly gay.

Bisexual is another matter. I don't know how you'd get stats on that. Some may only be curious, not actually bisexual. Bisexual whether they know it or not? Probably 80-90%.

Why do you have quotation marks around the word 'gay'? Just curious.

Anyhow, I don't know that statistics are very good, since they're probably relying on self-reporting, and there are many people who are in the closet. However, I do hear the 10% number thrown around a lot, and I bet tacking on an extra 5% would probably be a fair reflection.

There are many people who aren't willing to share that information because in some parts of the world (including the US) it is not socially acceptable to be homosexual or bisexual...so there's no exact way of knowing. There's no real information out there that can give you an exact measurement of the demographic of people who identify as homosexual or bisexual.

Various studies (and some rumors) say any where from 1%-10% of the populations. Basically this information only applies to individuals who are "out" or willing to share that information to researchers.

Just over 80 percent.

I know it's a lie...but if the idiot bashers can make up numbers as ridiculous as 3% why can't I make up a number too?

By the way 3-5 percent is the number of OUT OF THE CLOSET-Openly gay men....doesn't include women, bisexuals, or anyone who hasn't come out yet.

the stats I have read were for

12%men were gay
14%female were gay

I havent read a report on the % of bisexuals but I have to say from experience the number has to be high 20% maybe even go to 40% but that might be because of the whole sex isnt sex if its just oral mentality. Or Im not gay if Im not catching.

no longer as many as you would possibly want to imagine. the in reality massive difference between bisexual women folk and men, is that bisexual women folk are extra open about it. so a lot extra men settle for bisexual women folk than women folk who settle for bisexual men. maximum men also do not settle for bisexual men. the ingredient that i imagine is strange is that maximum bisexual women folk many times become responsive to as instantly. they're going to say the gayest such issues as "i'm became on by bare women folk, lesbian porn or fantasize about women folk, yet I"m a instantly lady". a guy will in no way say gay such issues as this about different men, except he's already identifies as gay or bi.

I'd have to say at least 30 percent or more because many people are secretly gay or bisexual and hasn't "came out of the closet" so to speak about their orientation...like myself.
