The area around the Nile river was very fertile (good for growing). Plants grow well when they have plenty of sunlight and water. But they need something else, too. Plants need good, rich soil, like the silt left behind after the flooding of the NIle.

The Nile valley civilisation flourished in Egypt on both sides of the river Nile. The land was made fertile by repeated flooding of the river which deposited rich, soft soil on both of it's sides. The soil was best suited for agriculture and the farmers grew 3 terms of crops every year. This made the land prosperous. It is one of the longest river too...

It's the world's longest river and it is vital for the existance of Egypt.
