As if I wasn't already paranoid about this pregnancy before hand! I just recently had a cerclage placed on my cervix and my worries have tripled. My questions are what are the symptoms of a ruptured cerclage? Will I have to get it tightened throughout the rest of the pregnancy? Is it normal for my stomach to tighten up every once in a while? And lastly how the hell do I survive 18 weeks of bedrest??? Experienced moms, your answers are greatfuly welcomed.

It is normal for your belly to tighten up. BH contractions. SO its ok. Ive never had cerclage done, but I was in the hospital for preterm labor at 25 weeks and now Im 30 weeks. I have to be on bedrest the rest of the time too. ITs horrible and depressing, but I just try to think its for the baby. I have 3 boys and my husband works out of town for a month at a time and then is only home for one week, so I had to have my mom come from out of state to help me for the remainder of the time. I dont like shopping, but now I keep thinking about how I would love to shop and I think about all of this stuff I need to buy and do...Drives me crazy. I just watch tv, read magazines, and get on this computer. Its hard Sorry you are having so many problems. Its stressful I know..

A cerclage is a simple stitch that keeps your cervix from prematurely dilating and causing miscarriage. You don't get it tightened. Rupture is extremely rare and you probably wouldn't feel it anyways. You'll have it removed when your labor starts or when they want to induce. Stop worrying.
Tummy tightenings are normal and just practice contractions - most women have them. With 18 weeks of bedrest, read a lot, talk on the phone, watch t.v. or go on line - basically anything you can to keep you mentally stimulated and not worrying about a situation that you can't do much about anyways.
Relax and good luck.

I don't know anything about the cerclage, but the tightening of your stomach is probably braxton hicks contractions or contractions. I am sorry to hear you have 18 weeks of bedrest my doctor just put me on bedrest till 36 weeks, but for me I have one week down and two to go, and I am already losing my mind. I am not on complete bedrest due to the fact I have a 16 month old.

Bleeding will be the first symptom. You have little tightening because you worry to much. You have to calm down.
Make sure that you call the hospital if your contractions are starting to hurt. It should get in to place after a few hours of bed rest.
I was bed rest to but not because of the cerclage, it was because I was bleeding. I got my self the best movies on television and I love to read. So I read a lot.
You will survive, it will seem like FOREVER, but you'll be so happy after that you have your baby.
Good luck!
