Well, if you played High School Ball, the best thing to do is contact your old coaches and possibly help out with them as assistant. If not, I suggest you look at your local high school and try to get them to accept you as "unpaid" assistant coach. Any level from Freshmen to Varsity would do to begin with.
Since you are young, it wouldn't matter where you start. You will have to learn all the different systems out there. So I wouldn't necessary look for a programs that run the system you like. It is best you learn what is out there, not because you necessary like it, but you will gain the experience of knowing it. For example, I don't like zone personally, but coaching in a program where all teams play 2-3 zone allowed me to know its strength and weakness. So now, I can run a nice offense against it.
Secondly, attend alot of seminars, even local ones. The best one that are cheap are the ones hosted by your local Community College. If you got cash, there are national coaching seminars too. I was fortunate enough to meet Coack K of Duke back in the 90s when I attended one. Seminars will open your eyes in all sort of basketball ideas. And looks good in your resume sometimes too.
After a few years, start looking for a freshman team or JV team to coach on your own. A few years after that, you can get a Varsity job somewhere (assistant probably). Don't waste your time with little kids team. They are nice to do and I done them (best time of my career so far), but not a big help your in career.

I started out coaching 9th grade basketball after I graduated. A year after that I moved up to JV ball and was getting some interesting looks at being a varsity coach before I joined the military.
If you are serious about coaching, you need to find a school where you can help out that plays the type of basketball you want to coach. Do whatever it takes to get into the program, even if it just means helping out with the Jr high teams. Eventually in a year or 2 you will get a look at coaching a team by yourself, and then it's up to you and how well you can coach that will decide where your coaching future takes you.
The reason I say coach under a system you like, is because as a jr coach you will have to coach the system the varsity coach wants you to. It is his program, and one day if you are skilled enough and lucky enough, you will have a program of your own.

There are several avenues ... Try your city leagues for kids. I don't know where you are but for example, I did the same thing as you, except I did it with baseball. I contacted the City of Gilbert (AZ) and the referred me to their parks and recreation division. From there, I was able to choose what age group I wanted to coach and all I had to do was attend a coaches meeting and that was it. I've been hooked ever since. If that doesn't work, try the YMCA or the Boys and Girls clubs.
Good luck ... hope it works out for you.

Ccould it possibly be that morals and ethic are not being taught? Integrity (found in the Bible) is not a word used much any more, it has been replaced by the word 'character' - which until before Clinton, meant one was foolish, not taken seriously, more of a clown nature, a cartoon. Ethics, is another individual characteristic not present in some people either. Could it be there needs to be a return of the "Big Ten?" But heaven sakes, they be called, the commandments!

Well the most part of coaching is that 1st off you have to know the game and enjoy it. You have to be firm tho. Train your students right and have a budget for your money. and who would you know? You might be the person I see on T.v.
Good Outview on your life: Best of luck:)
