If you are getting a PhD -- the quality of the university is EVERYTHING. You should not even be thinking about cost.

Besides -- the majority of PhD students at the better universities get fellowships and assistantships that pay for tuition and give a stipend that can be used for room and board.

Not one person in my PhD program at Berkeley paid his own tuition.

Depends upon what your emphasis will be.

Are you looking into vocal performance, pedagogy, instrumental performance, education?

A VERY good school to consider would be U.Missouri - KC. My cousin is persuing her masters in music right now, and they are very very highly regarded in the music community.

Have you looked into Okahoma City University. It is a great theater and music school
