The crown-of-thorns starfish
Crown-of-thorns starfish is at partly responsible for most of the damages of coral reefs, particularly on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. They are voracious predators that can wipe out large areas of coral; an individual can consume up to 6 square meters of living reef per year.

I don't know about ugly, but many of them are frightening, especially if you were to see them up close in real life, rather than TV.
