Has anyone taken Ambien CR during pregnancy? My previous doctor precribed me Ambien in my last pregnancy during the 3rd trimester. I have a new doctor, so I don't know what she recommends. But I am 19 weeks, and have been taken Ambien CR a few times a week, and cut the pills in half. Last night I took the full pill (12.5 mg) and it was not pleasant. I felt totally drunk, was out of it, threw up.
Has anyone else had any expreince with Ambien? Is it really safe during pregnancy?

I read somewhere that it wasn't as safe before the 3rd trimester. I can't find anyone concrete information on it one way or the other?

I took it while pregnant. I started taking it when I was admitted to St Joseph's Hospital Az at 25 weeks. (Due to a high risk pregnancy) I couldn't sleep while in the hospital and I was there for a month. I took it the whole time, I would try to go to sleep on my own but couldn't. I can't remember what the dosage was.And I stopped taking it as soon as I got home, nothing like being in your own bed! It never affected my pregnancy and would imagine it's ok to take while pregnant being that I got it in the hospital. Hope this helps!

I do think you should consult your doctor first. Since the fetus is more in the growth stages opposed to last time that you were prescribed it in your third trimester it might have different effects on you. Plus you might still be having some morning sickness anyway and everything made me nauseous anyway when I was pregnant so I say call your doctor, tell her about last time. And ask if it is ok to continue taking them this early. Isn't ambien perscribed anyway? How did you get ambien with out your doctor knowing anyway? Anyways just ask, I dont want it to effect the baby? good luck!

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of zolpidem can be fatal, especially when it is taken together with other medications that can cause drowsiness.
Overdose symptoms may include sleepiness, confusion, shallow breathing, feeling light-headed, fainting, or coma.

Just FYI: Ambien CR is 'pregnancy category C,' -- Ambien, er, non-CR, is 'pregnancy category B.'

Hun, you really need to contact your doctor to be sure its okay. For some reason I think the commercial says not to be taken during pregnancy. . .

you should discuss this with your doctor. you shouldn't ever take any medications without talking to him first
