ok to start off with i had a flu shot when i was 26 weeks pregnant. i know that its not gonna keep the flu away completely but i didnt think i would get it either... of course the thing is im not sure if i really have the flu either. has anyone gotten the flu shot while pregnant then ended up getting the flu later on?

see, the reason i dont think i have the flu is because, when you get the flu usually you cant eat anything and when you do it doesnt stay down, with me, i can eat like normal just all day long i feel really sick like im gonna barf, kind of like morning sickness.. i heard that sometimes that comes back in late pregnancys but i also have been haveing lots of head aches and one min i will be hot then the next i will be cold, all my muscles feel really weak. could this be the flu or morning sickness comming back, or is it possible that its just the way my body is reacting to not being able to get enough sleep (to much pains keep me awake ALL night, i nap as much as i can)

The flu shot is for influenza, which is respiratory with fever. The "flu" you are referring to is what's commonly referred to as the stomach flu, not influenza.

Also, the flu shot is killed virus and you only have a slight risk of getting the flu if it is live. You can't get it from killed virus shots.

Take your temperature to see if your possible chills are fever or just pregnancy related issues and call the doctor if you have a fever. When I was pregnant, I'd have a sweater on, then 5 min later I'd be in a T-shirt.

The stomach flu & the flu you got a shot for are different...Look up "Influenza". You could be in labor... Here are real influenza (what you got the shot for) symptoms...

http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/flu.htm

SYMPTOMS (from web site above)
If you get infected by the flu virus, you will usually feel symptoms 1 to 4 days later. You can spread the flu to others before your symptoms start and for another 3 to 4 days after your symptoms appear. The symptoms start very quickly and may include
Body aches
Chills
Dry cough
Fever
Headache
Sore throat
Stuffy nose
Typically, the fever begins to decline on the second or third day of the illness. The flu almost never causes symptoms in the stomach and intestines. The illness that some call "stomach flu" is not influenza.

I would call the doctor just to be on the safe side. This sounds as if it could be food poisoning, and they might just want to do a check to make sure you and baby are well. I'm sure it's just morning sickness rearing its ugly head. I've also heard it can come back later in pregnancy.

As for the flu shot, that usually is given to prevent a chest flu (aches, pains in the chest, coughing, etc.) and not the stomach flu as it sounds like you could possibly have too. So, the flu shot would not protect you from what you are describing.

First of all, the flu has nothing to do with your stomach. It is a respiratory virus, like a cold, but much worse with aches and pains. Maybe you have food poisoning or something. I'd go see your dr just in case.

SLOW DOWN. Sounds like your just Really Pregnant to me, but if you think you have the flu, call your Doctor. I was sick every day with my first child. Couldn't keep nothing down. I had a Migraine for almost all the time.
GOOD LUCK

What most people call the flu is not what influenza is. The flu shot only contains three influenza viruses. The three chosen are the ones expected to be top three for that year.

a flu shot will protect you from the strains that it's programmed to but doesn't make you immune to other strains - you may just have one of these other strains, or this could be just a pregnancy thing. Relax.

Flu or not, your body is asking you to slow down. In a few weeks, you won't have any time to rest, so please plant yourself on the couch so your body can finish making that beautiful baby. Best of luck to you.

Consult your local Nurse at the Medical for questions concerning the life of you and your child...you need a professional opinion here on that!
