Yes you can put your foot on the floor while sitting down. No weight bearing means you cannot push up with the foot to get to a standing position and may not put it down when walking.

Well my dad is a doctor and his most famous saying is "if it hurts dont do it, " This is true in most cases. If it hurts then dont do it yet. Swelling can increase if you leave your foot on the floor, swelling can increase pain. But that depends on how long you leave it down. Best advice is to judge by how it feels.

Weight bearing referers to walking on it.

Weight bearing means no standing on it. You can rest your foot on the floor.

Didn't your doctor tell you ? .. Seems to me that would definitely be weight bearing. The weight of your own body. Good Luck ! :)
