--discriminate in a new way?--Are they wanting a black candidate for President,(like Obama)so much, that they are overlooking Oriental,East Indian,Hispanic, or other qualified politicians.

Is our "political correctness" not as correct as we're trying to pretend?

The political party leaders who select certain prospective candidates, do so on the basis of their probable appeal to the majority of voters.
Do they know more about you than you're willing to admit?

Many qualified people from other races believe that they have no chance of winning.
If you look at our T.V. you would think that the only people living in the U.S. are Black or White, with a handful of Hispanics.

I believe the Mayor of L.A. is more qualified than Obama, but he's not being promoted because the political leaders don't think we will vote for an Hispanic at this time.

Ok. So how many people of other nationalities are in government? People dont just say - oh im going to run for president...It isnt like that. And I dont think that Obama has the backing that the jaded media would lead you to believe. They are just trying to boost him up. That isnt going to happen. And also, there are not as many natural born citizens of the US that fall under those catergories. So who is really qualified in those nationalities to be up for the task?

Shed our image? That has got to be the most bigoted load of hooey I've ever heard. You start off by lumping all white Americans into one category, then accuse us of discriminating. Now there's the pot calling the kettle black. Excuse the pun.

I can't speak for other Americans, only for myself, but if I were to vote for Obama for president, it would be because I thought he'd be the best candidate and race will not be a factor.

It is not our choice who runs for President so we have no say so until election day and we can choose the one we want. I don't think I would vote for Obama but, it has nothing to do with his nationality, I vote for the ones who shares many of my views and I agree with what the person says they will do.

PC is inherently incorrect. I'm not aware of many pols from the groups you mentioned who are running for pres. In fact I can only think of 1, Bill Richardson who is Hispanic. He doesn't seem to be particularly charismatic.

Political Correctness is goofy. So is tokenism. And affirmative action too.

How about this?

What if we really don't care about Obama's racial and ethnic makeup and actually care more about whether he could be effective and where he stands on issues?

Isn't it time we shed the hyphens in our titles? We're all Americans. Period. Until we do this, we'll never get past bigotry and bias.

As soon as you make color of a skin a criteria to run for president, you are a bigot.
