What impact do unions in America have on their workers?

Unions served their purpose several decades ago. In the old days when working conditions could be boarder line abusive unions stepped in and changed things.

However today's workplace with our HR departments, and laws that monitor and prohibit dangerous workplaces, and or working the employees to death without overtime, the unions really serve no purpose except to force companies to maintain less then desirable workers.

Look the world figured out that putting lead in paint was a bad idea, and found an alternative. America needs to realize that unions are out dated, and an alternative is already there and eliminate the obsolete.

The best thing about Unions is also the worst thing. While it is harder (almost impossible) to fire a union worker, its also harder (almost impossible) to fire bad union workers. This is especially apparent in bad teachers who achieve "tenure" after three years and go on to wreak havoc on students and their education for the next 30 years. Or think of the Union as being like the Catholic Church, no matter how horrifying your crime, you just get moved somewhere else (in govt. the worst get moved UP!)

Companies simply cannot afford to pay the grossly overinflated union wages.
