Stop listening to the New York times. The war is not about oil if it was there would already be a winner.

Sunshine...

Yes, the War in Iraq had to do with oil. But not like you are thinking. The concern was who would have control over the oil. Should it be the Iraqi people who reap the benefits of the revenue of the oil or should it have been Saddam's regime to continue to reap the benefits of the oil to line his own pockets and to use to finance terrorists activites around the Middle East (which he was doing on a daily basis) and possibly worldwide at some point. .

The obvious answer is the Iraqi people should be the group benefiting. Which as it stands now they eventually will if we stay in Iraq and finish what we started. If we pull out and leave Iraq in a chaotic mess then who will likely benefit from the revenue made off the oil? It could be Iran or Syria or at this point Al-Queda. One thing is for certain, it will not be for the Iraqi people to share equally and used to rebuild Iraq into the country that it was before Saddam came into power. Since Saddam took over Iraq he pocketed most of the revenue while the people of Iraq were left to live in poverty without proper infrastructure to sustain them. You've had to have seen the pictures of Saddam's palaces. The stockpiles of the food that was suppose to be distributed to the public as part of the "oil for food program". The only people who lived a good life was Saddam and his preferred Sunni's. The Shiites and the Kurds were tortured, raped, murdered and had their personal possessions and property taken away from them. Many parts of the country didn't have running water or electricity. Hospitals and schools were pretty much non-existent unless you were one of Saddam's chosen tribes.

There are many reasons we went to War in Iraq and yes, one of the reasons was for oil but not in the way you were thinking. Our goal was to keep the revenue from the oil out of the hands of the bad guys.

I know it is easier to believe that we went into Iraq for oil for ourselves. But ask yourself if we did, knowing what you know about the capability of the US military if they were "unleashed" to accomplish that type of a mission, would we not OWN Iraq today? And Iran, and Syria and Saudi Arabia. Nothing would stop us if all we wanted was oil. It isn't that simple. Think about it.

first of all, we did not go to war with them over oil; if that was the reason than our gas prices would be much lower.

we went to war with them for several reasons; harboring terrorists, weapons of mass destruction (which they did have, keep watching the news and you will see) and to free the people that were living in the awful conditions that saddam had created. oil was never one of the reasons that we went to war.

You may think that we haven't done much over there because our media only reports the negative news; but that is a bad misconception. Figure for every bad thing you hear at least 10 -12 good things have happened. Many of the families living over there live in tents and have no furniture.

Do your research before you ask questions; many answers are out there.

I suggest that you perhaps gain some inkling of knowledge regarding the world petroleum market. In fact, Iraq is pumping less oil than before the war. The link below is a good place to start.

Gas prices are down right now. Since it is only a "Feeling" you have about the war in Iraq, why don't you learn what it is really about. Then you can say "Since I know" then you'll sound more informed.

The gas shortage panic of the 70's taught me that the only shortage you're likely to experience soon,is the shortage of the cheaper priced, there seems to have been plenty of the higher priced stuff, ever since

Iraq sits on top of the second largest proven reserve of oil in the world.

Anyone who thinks that fact is unrelated to the decision to go to war is simply naive.

And to back this up, just check out the forthcoming Iraqi law offering tax-free profit to U.S. oil companies.

It's not necessarily about going and pumping the gas out of the ground and bringing it back to America. It is about letting large American oil companies get into the untamed oil fields of Iraq, so they can line their pockets with the sweet reward of black gold.

Honey, I don't think you understand.
We have not, nor will we ever, take even one single drop of oil from Iraq.
If you would but study history just a little, you would discover that the USA: Gives.
Never Takes.
