I despised metal when i was younger (I grew up listening to lots of different sh*t) but now I find myself loving alot of metal-core bands. Can anyone suggest any good metal/melodic metal bands? I'm not really into the cookie monster vocals, but I can get past that if the musicanship is good.

To give you an idea on my taste I like Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage, Norma Jean, Shadows Fall and Mastadon.

Thanks

Just wanted to add that I HATE hair metal. Well, except for maybe Guns N Roses & Skid Row.

Sorry to burst your bubble girl, but you're NOT listening to metal. This NU wave stuff and anything -core is not metal.

If you want to hear some real, true metal, go search into the central european melodic metal scene, like:
Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Gamma Ray, Falconer, Edguy, Freedom call, Firewind, Nocturnal Rites....

Avenged Sevenfold are very melodic and metal. Try City of evil, waking the fallen by them theyre good cds.
Metallica are good.
Slayer have tons of great music out.(reign in blood, seasons in the abyss, south of heaven and god hates us all)
Machine Head are a great metal band try Burn my eyes(CD) and through the ashes!
Trivium arent to my taste but might be to yours.
Bullet for my valentine are a good metal band from england and so are motorhead.

Hope you try these as the kick A55!!!!!

BLEEDING THROUGH (I love all of their stuff)
IT DIES TODAY (not their new CD..try The Catiff Choir haha)
Poison The Well (my favorite is December-A Season of Separation.. that CD was soo heavy but they got really alternative after that CD)
Bury Your Dead
Drop Dead, Gorgeous
ooooold Eighteen Visions (try their CD Vanity.. they had 2 before that but those were more of just noise hahah)
Bullet For My Valentine
Escape the Fate

I love all the bands you listed, so hopefully you'll love these! =)
