Okay the first thing you need to do is decifer if there is paint or primer on the drywall under the layers of wallpaper.

I had exactly the same problem in every room of our house. I spent many hours scraping until I found out the walls had not been painted prior to the first layer of wallpaper being put on (which is why they never took the wallpaper off).

So, in the end we had to re-drywall every wall because there is no way to scrape off the wallpaper without ruining the walls.

If there is paint underneath the first layer (if you peel back layers and layers and get to a cardboard looking layer, there is no paint) then use hot water and a scraper.

From the sounds of it though, they likely put the wallpaper on without priming the drywall.

Good luck I am still having nightmares about the wallpaper in our house (but it looks great with new drywall and fresh paint).

DIF, steam, and paper "tigers" can help, but at some point you may find that you are doing more damage than paper removal.

In my experience, you might be better off by painting the walls semigloss then skimming with sheet rock mud and sanding until smooth. This is also quite time consuming, as it can take several skim coats.

A third option is to make the walls generally smooth and use a positive image technique, such as rolling a second color on the base with a sponge or specialty roller.

A forth option is to texture the wall.

Hope you get what you want!

Use some vinegar & water in a spritzer bottle...Spray it on the wallpaper and let it soak for a couple minutes and then use a scraper to remover the paper. My mother has been doing this at the home she just bought. There were layers upon layers of wallpaper she had to remove & this is what she did & it worked pretty well. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

Hi,
Score the wallpaper layers with a knife and then soak the walls with vinegar and water, then scrape it off. If that doesn't work, there's a product called DIFF that's available at stores like Home Depot and Lowes that should help. Good Luck!

Take some downy fabric softner or some laundry detergent put in a spray bottle and soak the wall down wait about 20 minutes.. oh, forgot to mention, first take a soring tool that creates tiny holes for the liquid to penetrate, Then after 20 minutes it should peel right off if not, get a heat gun from the paint store.

Brush the painted wall paper with a stiff wire brush just enough to scratch through the paint. Spray water mixed with vinegar about 4 parts water to one part vinegar, and let it soak about ten minutes. Spray on additional if it dries out. Then scrape it using a razor scraper and additional water mixed with a little soap.

Go down to a paint supply store and ask for something to remove wallpaper. They have solvents that will soak through the paper and remove the adhesive. The might also be able to rent you a machine that uses very hot steam to penetrate the paper and soften the adhesive.

Try a degreaser or adhesive remover. This will make the glue break free & it should come right off. I had to do the same thing. Go 2 Lowe's or Home depot, they have exactly what U need. Hope this helps U.

No problem, I have been in you position several times. Cover the walls with masonite, or wood paneling, the last one I used a good grade of white plastic like sheets. I have forgotten the name, but they line the stalls of race horses, and trailers, I have saw it used in rest rooms in public bldg also. glue it on with a good grade of glue. I used quarter inch thick, and sawed it with a good skill saw and a new blade.

Scratching and steaming the old wall paper will ruin the sheet rock, or weaken the plaster if it an old house. Don`t waste your time.

you have to go to the home improvement store and buy: a paper tiger (makes little holes in the wallpaper), a spray bottle, wall paper remover concentrate, a scraper. Using hot water, mix the paper remover in the spray bottle. use the paper tiger on the wall. spray the wall. wait. scrape. repeat about 5000 times.
