Whenever i watch a college football game, i am always intrigued by the number of stickers on players' helmets (for example, Michigan and Ohio State). But when i look at other players' helmets, there don't seem to be any. Where do these stickers come from and how are they earned?

Depends. Some players get stickers for every TD they score. Or for passing for a TD. For kicking a field goal. getting a sack or a regular tackle. Depends on the player.

As other have already said, these stickers are awarded by the team/coach for exceptional plays or performance on the field. Some schools do this, and others do not. Notre Dame, for example, will never place anything on their helmets, as they represent the golden dome, and should not be cluttered. Also, many schools say that football is a team sport, and that individual achievement should be downplayed. Other schools award these stickers to varying degree. Some may only award for incredible plays, and keep the number of stickers to a minimum, while others seem to dish them out like candy, for every tackle or touch of the ball.

Stickers are a reward system. The reason you don't see them on all teams helments is because some schools do not use the same system.

Stickers are usually representative of a special statistic. Like TDs, Takles, Sacks, Interceptions, Pancakes, etc. The coaching staff determines what game achievements deserve stickers.

This is an encouragement to the players. They want to have a helment full of stickers. They want to show off that helment. Its about about achieving a positive pyschological effect.

In some high schools and colleges players are given stickers for good plays. These plays include a TD, a sack, a tackle. In my school we also got them for knocking a ball loose or recovering a fumble.

Different schools different reasons for the stickers and sometimes its by position. A QB may get one for a Td pass whereas a WR might get one for a TD reception whereas a defensive player may get one for a sack or causing a fumble, interception etc. Different coaches have different criteria.

Players earn them by doing something special in a game. For example, if a cornerback intercepts the ball and carries it back for a TD, he gets a sticker. :)
