I never had any kind of Messenger anywhere I've been, even ISP's. I am curious about them the more I learn to like the Answers feature BUT I am a very private person! I don't want to be insulted or get dirty IM's because I get down sometimes. Should I try one or leave it alone? Please answer only IF you are serious and can help me! I sure don't need to make anymore mistakes on the PC than I already have! Some of the people who have answered my questions sound so cool at times and I wish I could talk about it more with them. And there are times I answer someone else's question and I wish I had more time or space to tell them all I could from personal experience, etc. Both ways! So is it worth the loss (is there much loss?) of privacy to find some of these people on Answers or would I just be setting myself up for trouble? Maybe I'm dreaming to think an IM would turn out to be fun. There ARE some nasty jokers on Answers and it would be just my luck for them ALL to torment ME! So????

From my personal experience, I would suggest not to use your main yahoo id for answers. There are weirdos who will email you and harass you because they didn't like a question or an answer that you gave. Also, because your id is tied to your email, you can lose your email account if enough people report you for abuse. I don't consider myself a rude or abusive person, but there were enough thin skinned people who didn't like my answers that reported me, that Yahoo suspended my Answers account and deactivated my main email account. They have since then reactivated my email account, but I have lost my 360° site and can't get them to restore it. I would suggest using a "fake id" for answers, so you can just delete the account if you get too many nasty IM's or emails. Also, you won't be risking losing your email account just for having some fun.

Nah, It's worth it.

I don't use AOL messenger personally, I use MSN.

Just remember, if he's being abusive, just use the Block feature, it really is simple. I would advise it to you, it can also help you chat (for free) with friends, and distant family.

I've never had anything I didn't ask for with IMs, just don't click any links which don't link to Yahoo/Google and you'll be fine.

You never know who his on the other end and even when you have a good experience with IMing their is always the chance that you are talking to a hacker so take it as it is because only you can prevent forest fires.
