I read somewhere that she was a lesbian, but I thought she was married. Does anyone know for sure?

She was engaged to Samuel Chapman, a chemical engineer from Boston, then she ended their engagement and became intimate with her publicist, George P. Putnam, who she ended up marrying, with the understanding that it would be an open marriage. Whether or not that understanding involved women, there is no proof, though I'm sure it is not out of the question.

By rights, Amelia Earhart ought to be remembered for her achievements as an aviatrix and as an icon of female derring-do. Instead, her name is synonymous with one of the 20th-century’s greatest unsolved mysteries. What goes on in behind closed doors, is probably none of our business. However, if you are to believe the reports, Amelia Earhart was not a lesbian. She could have had bi-sexual leanings. She was engaged to one man for over six years before they broke up. She married George Putnam. According to some reports she had an extra-marital affair. For her times (and ours) she and George had an open marriage partnership. All of that does not sound like a lesbian to me. Did she wear manly clothes at times? Perhaps, but I would had to try to fly in high heels and a skirt. And if she was, so what.

Earhart was married, but her comments led many to believe that it was an open marriage. Earhart had written "I want you to understand I shall not hold you to any medieval code of faithfulness to me nor shall I consider myself bound to you similarly."

Although there have been rumors that she was a lesbian, there were also rumors that she was having an affair with her navigator, Fred Noonan. If she was a lesbian, there is no proof so it should not be accepted as a fact.
