No, I don't. They are dangerous bees. Africanized honeybees are actually scientifically called Apis mellifera scutellata. Normal honeybees are Apis mellifera. That third word denotes race or subspecies. There are 7 officially recognized species of honeybees, and about 44 subspecies in all. The common honeybee has 24 subspecies, 12 of which are native to Africa. Killer bees are a bit smaller than normal honeybees, have a different genetic code of instructions that makes them launch brutal, well-coordinated attacks, but in every other respect are identical to common European strains of honeybees throughout the US.

See, what the danger is lies in the fact they could be building a nest in your backyard and while it is being constructed they may not attack you but as soon as they finish it you're dead meat. Honeybee hives, and they can build several large hives next to each other, one colony can have thousands and thousands of dangerous workers.

Killer bees have been in the Southern States for a number of years. The African bees having been moving north. See the articles below. There is not much one can do except terminate any colonies found. This is a great example of man's tinkering with nature that went awry.
