Yes I really do think that it is important to have strong writing skills due to my believe that, "the pen is mightier than the sword", as I have found that to be the case in my life. In a civilized society debate is meant to remove the need to sword fight. Therefore writing skillfully to debate you're point of view, (and therefore recording your case), or to put alternative points across can win the day and or any issues in life, if precisely written. Being factual to get your information across in a non judgmental or prejudicial way in a constructively manner, is an important skill, as is not telling people what to think or conclude. Less is more e.g. logically providing accurate facts to allow the reader or readers to analysis your points allows them to make concise interpretations. Also the use of another writing skill, that being the incorporation of humor as a weapon is useful! As is knowing when enough is enough, so as to not labor or bang on . OMG I've labored, banged on and I'm abbreviating all over the show! Thank you for the nice Q and I hope this is sort of answer (actually I'm now ask you a question) that you thought you might get?
Alternate Answer:
Yes, as you'll be able to record and express anything you want?
Cheers & Bye

I guess that depends on what your career requires. If you're going to become a writer or a journalist, I guess it's very important. Check out how many of the answers on this forum have misspellings and incorrect usage and tell me if these people will soon be writing for the New Yorker.
Writing skills are always transferable--a skill that you can take to your next job no matter what that job entails. Another important skill is your public presentation and speaking skills. Work on both and you'll never have a problem landing a job.

What is important is to be able to communicate well with others. No matter what you do in life, you will be better off if you can get your ideas across in a way that your audience understands. So the skills are not so much being able to parse a sentence, as having a command of the basic skills so people are not distracted by bad spelling or grammar. Also having a vocabulary appropriate to your message is important. You don't have to use big words all the time, but you do have to be able to reach people at all levels.

Yes. Strong writing skills show strong reasoning skills and strong organizational skills. There are more important skills. One is social skills. Without them, it will be hard working for and with other people. So your writing skills would have to be strong enough to support your self-employment.

Strong writing skills are very important. Whether writing a letter of resignation or an essay for a college application, it is imperative that you make yourself heard. People have to understand what you're trying to say, and you should try to make yourself sound as good as you possibly can. Writing very well is one of many keys to success in this society, as I am finding out.

I have learned in this world, no matter what profession you are in, Proper English is important. What does that have to do with writing? Well generally the way you talk is the way you write. It is very important to posses excellent writing skills especially if you are to make it up a cooperate ladder, or own your own business one day. Writing alone is a lucrative career.

I think strong writing and language skills are important because your capacity for language defines your ability to perceive and interpret the world (by virtue of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis).
But really, reading/writing is like a universal communication and a huge part of life. It's very discouraging that some people can't write worth crap. You see them a lot here actually. :p

Yes because unfortunately, if I was to write a sentence like this:
i think i am the best person for the job cuz i am a relliabble and hard working indevidual who won't never let you down...
you would think I was thick, even though I might just be no good at writing but a genius everywhere else. First impressions count.

I think that for most people it is important however, I know some body who is functionally illiterate but still gets by just fine in life because he is a great carpenter. And his imagination is so unbelievably fantastic the he can create things that my mind can't even fathom.
