Safe from what? From the terrorists in Guantanamo?? the majority of people in GITMO are not terrorists. They are Afghanistan's that were rounded up by tribes in Afghanistan to collect bounties offered by the U.S. They weren't too picky about who they rounded up. It was all about the money.

No.

Guantanamo Bay is acting as a recruiting standard for a multitude of terrorist organisations (along the lines of "look what this supposedly free country does. It locks up innocent Muslims without trial"*) It eliminates any moral voice the US could have over human rights.

It needs to be shut now.

BTW - I say "innocent Muslims" for a reason. No-one in there has been tried let alone convicted of any crime and only 7 out of over 400 detainees have even been charged. As the gold standard of our justice system is "innocent until proved guilty", until they've been tried and convicted by a fair and open court of law, they remain legally innocent people.

No, I do not feel safer knowing that our government locks up people whose guilt is not known. Two of the prisoners there are Pakistani journalists who have critisied their government. That doesn't make us safer.
If the govt would go get bin Laden, then I would feel a lot safer.

all those people branded as terrorists and languishing in Guantanamo without any access to civil rights can give better answer.those people who always make a lot of noise about freedom of speech and democracy are maintaining stoic silence about Guantanamo.

Sure do!

Instead of planning more attacks we got them either hiding in a cave or locked up in Gitmo.

Guantanamo is hardly the deciding factor, but yes, I do feel safer...not safe, mind you...but safer.
