It seems most (if not all) people are looking for something to believe in, particularly a better life after this one. While mainstream denominations in developed nations like the west are diminishing, faiths in under-developed countries continue to flourish.
Radical militant faiths that we seem to see in the news so much today place a high value on personal sacrifice, the end result of which is a higher "earned" status in the afterlife. I mean, really, if you had to struggle every day just to find enough water to drink, wouldn't it be great to blow yourself up and find yourself in an oasis for eternity, surrounded by virgins?
Inherently, we're just stupid. We think things we do on earth are somehow going to satisfy God. Like, if I walk on old lady across the street just one more time, then I can die and He'll accept me. But, again, everyone wants to believe there is a life after this one. As the Apostle Paul said, "if only for this life we have hope, we are to be pitied above all men."

Religion on those cases is used as a smokescreen, or to hide political factors, no racional person would kill inocent people or to be rude, just because religion says so, or a god says so. For some people it is a means of escaping reality, as you have to blindly and without question follow what is commanded to you, if you are a true fanatic. Religion is a necessary part of society, as sometimes brings positive feedback to the community, but at the cost of making people dumber; as everybody knows, a fanatic is just the most annoying being there can be, not being able to establish a conversation without somehow linking it to religion. Terrorism is the ultimate expression of fanatism.

Stop using CNN and FOX NEWS as your sources for education on telling you what other religions believe in. Don't you realize they have an agenda, Go to www.youtube.com and watch Peace Propaganda and the Promised Land. It will show you how THEY (those with an agenda) manipulate the minds of the masses (like you) into believing what they want you to believe. So now that I have addressed that, I will tell you that Islam DOES NOT teach you to kill innocent people or the infidels...it does tell you to do it IF you take the verses out of context (which coincidently that is what the media does....you know, YOUR education source). As for terrorism.....Christianity has a HUGE list of that....oh coincidently against the infidels too (in this case...muslims). Hum let me think....the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, Ivan the Terrible, ethnic cleansing of the muslim Bosnians at the hands of Christian Serbs......shall I continue? Cause I can you know! So educate yourself dude.

U r absolutely true. The dum f****rs die for their religion bcz they think that after their death they remains in the history.
but this people never remains in this history.
God never speaks to man, but man speaks to god,
God never ask to kill, but man kills for god.
if u see the terrorism as a core only the followers of the group would have died not the leaders. the leaders enjoys the A/c room , Laptop , Five stars life.
but the followers live in stone and horne, snow and mountains dark and hot.
No leader committed a suicide bomb attack , only the followers have committed.

Why do people die for their "Country",,it's just a piece of dirt,, because some ego maniac says they should?
What do you believe in? Anything worth dieing for?
I have thought about it and the only thing that I would die for are my kids.
What does that make me,, an atheist? a traitor?
No true believer in God wants to die for the "Religion" that's Liberal propaganda

My question is more so why do people KILL for religion? In most religions killing is not permitted. But people try to make up excuses to get around the blatantly stated. "Turn the other cheek" not "bum rush the country and kill the fuckers"....but whatever. To each his own.

Because they are misguided by their preachers.
They do not read the Books and understand it, else are misguided by fellow religious teachers who rather do politics more then the preaching of religions.
